Replica of Eustachio Divini's compound microscope preserved at the Museum of the History of Physics of the University of Padua

The ArtesMechanicae workshops together with Guido Giannini, historic craftsman of Piazza Pitti in Florence, they made the replica of the compound microscope made by Eustachio Divini's workshop in 1671, the only remaining example of its production today. Through an analysis carried out with philological rigor we attempted to understand the original techniques and materials used to build the instrument. There are no criteria to follow for the construction of replicas, after careful museographic reflections with the curators of the Galileo Museum in Florence and the Museum of the History of Physics of the University of Padua aimed at safeguarding the original, we chose to build the internal structure of the instrument not in cardboard, as in the original, but in synthetic material using 3D printing and to reconstruct the texture and surface decorations "as new" without reporting the signs of wear present on the original.
